Sony revealed last month via Twitter that Lollipop
will roll out to core Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 devices at the beginning
of 2015, but did not mention other handset models at the time.
While it appeared in testing phases a few weeks prior, select Motorola smartphone models were one of the first to receive the final build of the Android 5.0 update in mid-November, with Over the Air updates rolling out to Nexus devices later that month. The update has since rolled out to various other devices.
Lollipop introduces a slew of new features to Android
devices, such as Google's new Material Design aesthetic and new
notification options. However, some users began reporting bugs with the
update, such as apps restarting in the background and Wi-Fi connectivity
issues.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, Android Pit reports that Lollipop 5.1
is scheduled for a February roll out to some devices before its full
release in June or July. The update will reportedly address the issues
that some users are experiencing with 5.0, including:
- - Silent mode added after missing on Android 5.0
- - General improvements in system stability
- - Improved RAM management
- - Fixes for sudden app closures
- - Improved battery management
- - Excessive consumption of network devices when used Wi-Fi fixed
- - Issues with wireless connections fixed
- - Problems with Okay Google function solved
- - Notifications problems solved
- - Some sound problems experience by certain devices fixed
- - Other improvements and changes
- - Changes in the Material Design color palette (after users complaints, possibly for a higher version though)
