Apple releases iOS 8.1.2 update to fix bugs and address lost ringtones

Apple released its iOS 8.1.2 update on Wednesday for compatible iPhones and iPads. The latest version of the mobile operating system will fix a few bugs, and it makes sure users won't lose ringtones they've purchased from the iTunes Store.
Apple last released iOS 8.1.1 in mid-November, which mostly focused on improving older devices' performance.

There was a problem, according to Apple, that caused some iPhone users' ringtones to be inadvertently removed from their devices. Customers can retrieve lost tones by visiting itunes.com/restore-tones on the iOS device. The bug fixes in iOS 8.1.2 are apparently too minor for Apple to specify.

The 8.0.1 update was considered disastrous, causing malfunctions with Touch ID, Apple's fingerprint sensor, and the loss of cell service. Apple publicly apologized after pulling the download. On top of that, the amount of space needed for the initial iOS 8 download was sizable (many people deleted photos and videos in order to make room for the update). Still, despite what seemed to be a stall in iOS 8 adoption, Apple's latest mobile operating system is on the rise.

According to Apple's own measurement metrics on the App Store, about 63% of Apple's mobile users are using iOS 8 as of Dec. 8. That's up from 47% in October. It seems like iOS 8 may be finally catching on.
