Microsoft's Windows 10 event not only included tons of announcements about the new operating system, but also revealed Xbox One game streaming, how DirectX 12 affects gaming, and Microsoft's hologram project. Free Upgrade to Windows 10

If you own Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, Microsoft is offering a free upgrade to Windows 10 for the first year the new OS is available. Windows 10 was first revealed back in September 2014. Though we didn't get a release date for Windows 10, Microsoft announced that a new build of Windows 10 will be available for participants of the Windows Insiders program next week, and they'll also get to see the first Windows 10 build for phones in February.

Windows 10 Features Universal Apps

Microsoft introduced the Windows 10 mobile version of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. These apps, along with the Photo app, can access any docs stored on the OneDrive. Additionally, the Windows 10 Action Center settings will sync across all Windows 10 devices.

Cortana Comes to PC with Windows 10

Cortana is getting some new features as she upgrades to Windows 10 PCs and phones. Cortana will still be able to make appointments, set reminders, and perform other standard search functions, but she'll also come with specific PC features. For instance, Cortana can search the local hard drive and OneDrive. Cortana's Windows 10 upgrade also permits her to remember where you parked your car.

New Information on Internet Explorer's Successor

Microsoft previously announced that Windows 10 new browser, Codename Spartan, will ship with the new OS, but today Microsoft officially revealed several new features for the browser. Codename Spartan will have integration with Cortana to have more personalized searches and a reading list that can be access offline. Also, users can take notes directly on web pages, grab sections of the page, and share them.

Fable Legends Will Have Cross-Play

Lionhead Studio's Fable Legends will feature cross-platform multiplayer between Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. In addition, Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, also announced that Fable Legends will have DirectX 12 support on Windows 10.
