LG has announced the G Flex 2 at this year’s CES.
The second entry in LG’s curved Android smartphone lineup comes in at a slightly smaller scale, but packs more of a punch under the hood courtesy of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series processor, which clocks in at 2.0GHz and houses a 64-bit, octo-core chip.
One of the complaints of the previous entry was it too big at 6 inches in length, resulting in the Flex 2 stepping down to a more comfortable 5.5 inches.
Elsewhere, improvements in plastic OLED technology has led to the G Flex 2 bumping up its resolution to 1080p from 720p. On top of that, the Flex 2 comes with faster self-healing of the rear plastic casing (LG says under 10 seconds), and runs Android Lollipop.
One of the key areas the presentation focused on was that this version is tougher and 30 percent more durable than its predecessor. In a similar vein, the overall strength of the unit has increased by 20 percent, resulting in more flexibility, and a greater spread of impact should the user accidentally drop it.
According to LG's Ram-chan Woo, users check their phones once every six minutes, so in the hopes of making important information more readily accessible, LG has changed how the Knock Code works and now shows elements like missed calls or the time, all with a simple swipe.
We're still waiting on release date confirmation, but you can expect to get your hands on the device at some point in the next few months.
